Weekly Round of Results from M.B.A. Cup, M.B.A. and G.B.L. Leagues

MBA Cup - (Report from Saturday 9th June)

Disappointing to not have all results from last nights cup matches, there should be no excuses except for Rhymney Royal who play Belle Vue next week due to both Rhymney teams being drawn at home.

At Rhymney there was an excellent win for Newbridge and Bedwellty also recorded a win at Beechwood. Six Bells overcame Caldicot in a close game and Abertillery won at Ebbw Vale. Machen best Caerleon away and Bedwas held out to beat Blaenavon. Pontnewydd had a narrow win against Pontypool while Pontymister Athletic, Brynmawr and Beaufort recorded home wins.

RTB and St Julians are both through to the last sixteen and I heard the Pontymister Welfare are through but not had that confirmed. Blackwood/Blaina and New Tredegar/Gilwern remain a mystery.

I am hoping the county secretary and president will draw round three this weekend and will get it posted on the website as soon as possible.

M.B.A. Division 1
Machen and Beaufort recorded away wins to remain top of this division and makes next weeks clash between the two sides very interesting when Beaufort will be looking to avenge defeat in the Welsh earlier in the season. RTB returned to winning ways although Bedwas would be quite pleased with their five point haul from this match. A close encounter at Crosskeys saw Pontymister Athletic take the spoils ten points to four.

M.B.A. Division 2
The top two clashed at Blackwood, in what sounds like a cracker, the home side edged it by one shot taking ten points to Abertillery's four. Rhymney Gwent, Croesyceiliog and Newbridge all won away to move up the table in the chasing pack.

M.B.A. Division 3
With Blaina enjoying a tour weekend their scheduled match with leaders Brynmawr has been rearranged, that gave the chasing group chance to close in, New Tredegar and Pontypool Park Girlings did just that claiming away wins and also first and second place in the division. Rhymney Royal recorded their first win of the season but remain rooted to the bottom.

M.B.A. Division 4
Llanwern suffered their first setback at Oakdale but both were leap frogged by st Julians who won at Pontymister Welfare. Panteg House and Abercarn notched up their first victories of the season but remain the bottom two.

M.B.A. Division 5
Whiteheads are now the only unbeaten side after victory at Belle Vue, Newport Athletic continued their recent good form and moved into third while Firbank go fourth after scoring a century against Monmouth.

M.B.A. Division 6
In the only match I have had a result for Standard also scored a century to take twelve points against Garndiffaith.

G.B.L. Division 1
Chepstow stay top with a good win at Abercarn but Beaufort, RTB and Bedwas all won to keep the pressure on. I am still waiting for a result from the local derby at Bailey Park where Crickhowell were the visitors.

G.B.L. Division 1
Newbridge and Croesyceiliog won to stay top two but not had the Abertillery v Pontypool score.

Next week sees the first round of the WBA knockout and I would like to wish all our qualifiers the very best of luck, please give me the new dates of your rearranged MBA fixtures.
