It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of Life Member, and Past President Graham Jones from the Beaufort Bowls Club.
Graham joined Beaufort in the 1950’s, and became Secretary of the club at the age of just 23, beginning a lifelong commitment to the game and to the club.
Graham soon rose within the ranks of the Monmouthshire Bowls Association and became President in 1976, and was Match Secretary between 1983 to 1995. Graham also served as Patron of the County for many years and only stepped down from that position two years ago.
Graham became President of the WBA in 1991, and President of the British Isles Bowls Council a few years later.
Graham was widely respected throughout Wales by successive generations of players and administrators for his experience, wisdom and dry, sense of humour. He was an outstanding orator who delighted audiences with his theatrical flair.
Despite the dizzy heights which Graham rose to in Bowls, he was first and foremost a club man and we send our condolences to his family and to the Beaufort Bowls Club at this sad time.
I will circulate details of Graham’s funeral arrangements as soon as these are released.
Nick Harris,
Hon. Secretary
