Caerleon Sports Weekly Roundup - Week 2


What tued out to be a very wet afteoon on Saturday, only one game fell foul of the weather as teams endured the harsh conditions.

MBA Division 1

The top 2 from last season (Crosskeys and Blackwood) maintained their 100% start to the season as both came retued home from away fixtures with a win. Crosskeys lead the table by 1 point following a 12-2 win at Ynysddu whilst Blackwood took all 14 points at Bedwas & Trethomas. Blaina won their 1st match since retuing to the top flight with a 12-2 win over St. Julians whilst Croesyceiliog came away with a 10-4 win at Pontymister Athletic.
 

MBA Division 2

In a day of very close encounters, only 12 shots seperating the 4 games in the division 2. RTB Ebbw Vale remain top of the table as they edged out Newbridge by a single shot, picking up 10 points. Pontnewydd also retain their 100% record as they overcame Cwmbran Park by 6 shots, also winning 10-4. In the 2nd single shot win of the afteoon, Caldicot pipped Rhymney Gwent (10-4) whilst there was only 4 shots seperating Blaenavon and Bedwellty Park (10-4), with the home side coming out the victor.
 

MBA Division 3

Panteg House lead the way on Shot count following their 12-2 home win over Llanhilleth. Pontypool Park also sit on the same 26 points as the leaders, following their 14-0 win over Chepstow whilst New Tredegar picked up their first win of the season, with a 10-4 win at Rhymney Royal.
 

MBA Division 4

A 12-2 victory for Oakdale at Six Bells sees them move to the top of the division on shot count, with their hosts continue to find things difficult in the higher division. Aberca sit equal on points with Oakdale, as they edged Abergavenny 10-4 in another game that was decided by a single shot match. Crickhowell picked up their first win of the season with a 10-4 win over Beaufort, as did Newport Athletic, with a 12-2 win over Panteg Park.
 

MBA Division 5

3 teams maintained their winning starts to the season, with Whiteheads leading the way on shot count, following a 14-0 win over PILCS. Equal on points with them are Firbank who also took maximum points at home to Gadiffaith. Oakdale Welfare sit 3 points behind them as they took 13 of the 14 points on offer at home to Pontymister Welfare. Caerleon picked up their 1st win of the season with a 10-4 away win at Belle Vue to sit 4th in the table.
 

3 Rink - GBL Division 1

Blackwood continued their winning start to the season as they won a closely fought game (5 shots) at RTB Ebbw Vale 10-2. Defending Champions Croesyceiliog also made it 2 from 2, a they won an even close game (3 shots) over Pontymister Athletic 8-4, despite only winning on 1 of the 3 rinks. Bedwellty Park opened up their league campaign with a maxium 12 points at home to Newbridge whilst Crosskeys captured their first win of the season with a 10-2 win over Monmouth.
 

3 Rink - GBL Division 2

A quiter afteoon in Division 2 with only 2 games taking place, with both Chepstow (10-2 at Aberca) and Cwmbran Park (10-2 at home to Ynysddu) opening up their league campaigns with wins.
 

2 Rink - GBL Division 1

The 2 Rink GBL League got underway but unfortunately only one game was able to play with week as Pontypool Park won 8-2 at Beaufort.
 

2 Rink - GBL Division 2

A similar affair to division 1 of the 2 Rink GBL, with only a single game being played, as Panteg Park started their season with an 8-2 at home to Blackwood. Pontymister Welfare had difficulties raising a team to travel to Oakdale and will look to reschedule in the coming weeks, whilst the Bedwellty Park and Crickhowell game was the sole game to fall foul of the weather.
