Caerleon Sports Weekly Roundup - Week 15

Another busy weekend with some games being played today which have impacted the league standings.

MBA Division 1
Bedwas move to the top of the league following a convincing home win (12-2) against Pontymister Athletic. Croesyceiliog trade places with Cwmbran Park in the table and now sit in 5th place after an 11-3 win, with the win putting them in a good position to avoid the drop. The bottom of the table clash at Rhymney Royal (vs Newbridge) went down to the last bowl of the game with the home team coming out the victors by a single shot meaning that Newbridge now need to win both of their remaining game to avoid the drop.

MBA Division 2

St. Julians came out the victors in the top of the table clash as they travelled to RTB Ebbw Vale, coming away with a 12-2 win. Caldicot's 12-2 win at home to Pontnewydd puts within 6 points of the top 2 teams, and with further top of the table matches scheduled for next Friday and Saturday, there will be a fierce battle for the 2 promotion spots. Rhymney Gwent remain 4th following a 10-4 win at Pontypool Park Girlings whilst Blaenavon secured their place in Division 2 for next season with a 12-2 win over relegated Chepstow.

MBA Division 3

Blaina remain top of the table and confirm their promotion to Division 2 next season following a nail biting one shot win against Abertillery on Saturday and then backing it up with a 12-2 win at home to Llanhilleth on the Sunday. Ynysddu continue their impressive run of wins with two further 14-0 wins (Friday vs Beaufort and Saturday vs Abergavenny) in the space of 24 hours to temporarily move top but following Sundays results they now sit only 4 points from the top and are within touching distance of promotion. Bedwellty Park still remain in the hunt for promotion following a 14-0 win over Llanhilleth but face 2 difficult matches against the top 2 in their bid for promotion. Machen bounce back from a stretch of bad form to record their first win in 6 games with a maximum 14 point against Beaufort, a result which now means Beaufort will drop to division 4 next season.

MBA Division 4

In the penultimate week of games, promotion and relegation were confirmed with no movement in the table. Panteg House remain top despite an 11-3 loss at Oakdale. Beechwood draw level with them on points following a 9-5 win over Pontymister Welfare and only shot difference now seperates the team as they will both look to secure the title next week. New Tredegar confirmed they will finish 3rd with a 12-2 win at Firbank and Panteg Park winning 10-4 at Caerleon, means Caerleon and Pontymister Welfare will both drop to division 5 next year.

MBA Division 5

Despite not playing, results meant that Aberca are now guaranteed promotion and will now look to secure the title in the coming weeks. Whiteheads continue to push them and are the only team who can catch the leaders, following a 12-2 win against Six Bells and need only 3 more points to also guarantee promotion. Belle Vue move upto 4th in the table with a 10-4 win at Crickhowell whilst Gilwe and Newport Athetlic played out a draw, with the visitors taking the bigger share of the points 6-8.

GBL Division 1

Bedwas completed their campaign with 10-2 win at Newbridge to sit comfortably at the top of the table, with only Pontymister Athletic now capable of catching them in the coming weeks and deny them the GBL title. Crosskeys boosted their chances of avoiding the drop with a 10-2 home win against Chepstow.

GBL Division 2

RTB Ebbw Vale retu to the top of the division following a 10-2 win at Abergavenny as early in the week Blackwood had moved top despite a 10-2 loss at Blaina. A busy week for Bedwellty Park saw them start with 12-2 win at Abergavenny on Thursday but falling to defeat on Saturday at Blaina (2-10) and on Sunday vs Pontymister Welfare (4-8). Aberca continued their push for one of the 2 promotion spots with a convincing 12-0 win against Beechwood whilst Pontymister Welfare started their weekend with a maximum 12 against Whiteheads (ahead of their 8-4 win at Bedwellty Park on Sunday)

GBL Division 3

Only a single game played in the 2 rink league as Ynysddu moved upto 2nd place with a 10-0 win at home to Cwmbran Park, keeping them in the hunt for the league title with 1 game to go.
