Caerlon Sports Weekly Roundup - Week 14

WLB Carruther Shield
The climax of the biggest competition for clubs in in Welsh bowls, the Carruthers Shield took place as Crosskeys look to add to their Cup success as they entertained Harlequins in the semi final at Llandrinfod Wells. What resulted was a a true classic with a nailbiting finish worthy of a final. With the game finishing all square on 21 ends, following a last bowl draw by Crosskeys skip Chris Klefenz, the extra end proved just as tense. The early bowls from the Quins frontend looked to put them in the driving seat but some exceptional bowls from the Crosskeys backend saw them over the line by 2 shots and into the final against Penylan.

The final started well for Crosskeys as they took the lead in the few first ends but as the game progressed, The Penylan rinks of Dave Harding and Dan Salmon piled on the pressure, slowly building sizeable leads from which Crosskeys couldn't get back. In the end, only the rink of Danny Davies Jnr. retued a winning score, as the overall score finished 94-65 to Penylan.

Congratulation to Penylan on their success and commiserations to Crosskeys, but a fantastic achievement on reaching the final.
