Caerleon Sports Weekly Roundup - Week 11


Inter Association
Rhymney & Sirhowy moved top in the penultimate round of matches as they took 18 points off Newport & District at Caerleon as West Mon recorded their first win with a 16-6 win over South Mon. at RTB Ebbw Vale.

Carruthers Shield
Crosskeys progressed into the last 8 with a 37 shot win at Home to Loughor, and now fly the flag for Monmouthshire in the competition as RTB Ebbw Vale fell to their first defeat in the competition since 2020, losing out to Penylan by 25 shots in a repeat of last years final. Blaenavon travelled to Cardiff and battled strongly only to fall short following a late surge by their losts, losing out by 18 shots.

Good Luck to Crosskeys in the next round, who will now play Fedale at Home on July 20th.

MBA Division 1
With Crosskeys in Carruthers Shield action, Bedwas (10-4 against Croesyceiliog) and Blackwood ( 10-4 against Pontymister Athletic) took the opportunity to close the gap at the top as they both recorded wins. In the battle of the bottom two teams, it was the visitors Cwmbran who came with way with the spoils, as they secured 12 points against Rhymney Royal.

MBA Division 2
St Julians take over at the top of Division 2 as they picked up maximum points away at Chepstow. RTB Ebbw Vale drop to 2nd despite picking up a 12-2 win at home to Pontnewydd as Caldicot also to continue to push with a 14-0 win over Rhymney Gwent, and only sit 3 points off top in 3rd place.

MBA Division 3
Blaina continue their winning ways and with it move to the top of the table with a maximum 14 points against Beaufort. Ynysddu also recorded a 14-0 win against Machen and move upto 4th in the table. Bedwellty Park continue to sit in 3rd place following their 12-2 win over Abergavenny as Abertillery also picked up 12 points at home to Llanhilleth.

MBA Division 4
Another division with movement at the top, as Beechwood won the tightly contested top of the table clash against Panteg House, with a 3 shot, 12-2 win. New Tredegar remain 3rd following their 12-2 win over Pontymister Welfare as Caerleon moved up 2 places with an 11-3 win at home to Oakdale and now sit 5th. Elsewhere Firbank secured a 10-4 victory over Panteg Park but still remain bottom.

MBA Division 5
Aberca maintain top spot with a 14-0 away win at Pontyfelin as 2nd place Whiteheads also continue to push at the top with a 12-2 win at Gadiffaith. Newport Athletic remain in 4th place following their 10-4 win at Belle Vue and Six Bells won the closest contest of the day with a 10-4 win at Crickhowell.

GBL Division 1
Pontymister Athletic closed the gap with leaders Monmouth, following an 8-4 win over Crosskeys. Bedwas moved up to 3rd in the table as they recorded 10 points against Caldicot.

GBL Division 2
Aberca move upto 3rd as they secured maximum points off leaders RTB Ebbw Vale. Becchwood also moved up in the table to 4th place with an 8-4 in over Pontymister Welfare. Further down the table, Blaina won 10-2 at Whiteheads.

GBL Division 3
In the top of the table clash, St Julians closed the gap with leaders Croesyceiliog with a 10-0 win. Cwmbran Park remain 3rd following a narrow 2 shot (8-2) over Oakdale. New Tredegar rise to 4th with a 10-0 win over Bailey Park and Pontypool Park Girlings also move up in the table with a 10-0 win over Blackwood.
