Caerleon Sports Roundup - 18th June

A wet day yesterday meant a few fixtures fell by the wayside, can I remind clubs to let me know when this happens and also let me know when the new date is set. Also a few clubs still think I get their results via a crystal ball, every club should send in their results after every game. Finally, while on my soap box, a few clubs have rearranged their cup matches for after the official date, this was allowed last round due to the special bank holiday but should not become the normal practice. If you have a good reason for wanting to change a cup match, it should be mutually agreed by the two clubs on a date prior to the official date.
This weeks round up begins last Sunday where a very exciting mba1 game finished 81-80 to Blackwood against Croesyceiliog, both sides improving and pushing for the top spot, point wise it was 10-4 to Blackwood. In gbl2 Blaina beat Beechwood 12-0.
Wednesday saw Machen host Crosskeys with the visitors enjoying a 12-2 victory.
Friday was the 3rd round of the cup and the closest game was St Julians 8 shot victory over Panteg House. Pontymister Athletic moved into the last eight with a win at Llanhilleth while Rhymney Gwent failed to raise a team to go to Cwmbran. Newbridge beat Pontypool Girlings and Beaufort beat Pontnewydd. RTB remain in contention after beating Ynysddu, the games at Bedwas and Abertillery will be played next week.
Croesyceiliog continue to push on at the top with a 14-0 win over Chepstow, elsewhere RTB showed they will not relinquish the title easily after they won 12-2 at Rhymney Gwent. Bedwas are also putting some good results together and beat Blackwood 13-1 and Pontymister also showing some form won 14-0 at Machen.
The only game to survive the weather saw Caldicot move out of the relegation places after a 13-1 win over Pontypool Girlings.
Bedwellty Park remain top despite going down 12-2 at Llanhilleth and St. Julians move into second place after a 12-2 win over Six Bells.
In the match of the day Whiteheads stay top after a 76-75 (10-4) win over neighbours Firbank. Pontymister Welfare remain second after beating Caerleon 12-2 and Blaenavon third after also winning 12-2 against Oakdale. Ynysddu moved up the table after they too recorded a 12-2 win against Panteg Park.
The only result I have saw leaders Newport Athletic maintain their impressive start to the season beating second place Beechwood 12-2.
Croesyceiliog stay top after winning 9-3 at RTB who are second. Newbridge remain third despite losing 10-2 against Crickhowell and in the days other very exciting match, the Pontymister derby match finished 53-52 (10-2) in favour of the Athletic.
Chepstow go top after a 12-0 win over Blackwood, Bedwellty move up to second after winning 12-0 at Beechwood. Monmouth move up to third with a 10-2 win over Caldicot.
Crosskeys top the group after making it three from three with a 7-0 win over Pontypool Girlings and Whiteheads move up to second after beating Abergavenny 5-2.
