MBA Cup
Friday saw the 3rd Round of the MBA Cup take place, with the weather preventing 2 of the 8 games ( Caldicot vs Six Bells and Cwmbran vs Crosskeys) being abandoned with only a handful of ends played. RTB Ebbw Vale progressed in the defence of their title with a comfortable win at home to Ynysddu and Pontnewydd also came away with a home win against Beaufort. Elsewhere, 3 much tighter games took place as Blackwood edged out Blaenavon in a very close encounter by 2 shots, Abertillery overcame Oakdale by the same margin and Blaina beat Croesyceiliog by 6 shots. St. Julians secured the final position in the quarter finals following Aberca conceding the match.
WLB Carruther's Shield
Yesterday saw 7 Monmouthshire sides in action as the the last 32 of the Carruther's shield took place. Ynysddu put up a spirited performance against Whitchurch but unfortuantely fell to a 15 shot defeat. Six Bells travelled to a very wet Brition Ferry Combined but fell to defeat to end their campaign and a close game between Blackwood and Barry Athletic ended in a 10 shot defeat for Blackwood to also end their run. There was a nail biting finish to the all Monmouthshire tie of Blaenavon and Newbridge, with Blaenavon edging out their opponents by 2 shots. Crosskeys travelled to Llandrindod Wells, where they finished strongly in a close encounter to win by 24. RTB also move into the last 16 following the withdrawal of Tenby.
Good luck to the 3 remaining teams in the last 16, Blaenavon, Crosskeys and RTB Ebbw Vale.
MBA Division 1
With a few teams involved in Carruther action, only 2 of the scheduled 4 games took place. Bedwas closed the gap with the top 2 following a 12-2 win at home to Cwmbran Park and Rhymney Royal secured their first win of the season with a narrow 4 shot (9-5) win at home to Croesyeiliog, lifting them off the bottom of the table.
MBA Division 2
Another league affected by Carruthers involvement, Rhymney Gwent travelled to Chepstow and came home with a 10-4 win to move equal on points at the top of the division. Another successful team on the road was Pontypool Park Girlings as they came way with a 10-4 win at Pontnewydd to secure their first win of the season.
MBA Division 3
In an afteoon of away victories, Machen move top of the division following a maximum 14 points away to Llanhilleth and Abergavenny move upto 5th following their 14-0 win at Abertillery. The Bedwellty Park and Blaina game fell foul of the weather as the recent weather preventing the green from recovering enough for the match to make place.
MBA Division 4
In the battle of Panteg, it was Panteg House who came away with all the points and with it, moving to the top of Division 4. Beechwood drop to 2nd despite their 12-2 win at home to Caerleon. New Tredegar remain 3rd following their 8-6 win over Oakdale and Pontymister Welfare move up into 4th spot with a 10-4 win at Firbank.
MBA Division 5
Belle Vue close the gap with the top 2 following a 12-2 win over Crickhowell, as Newport Athletic also win 10-4 to move upto 4th in the table. Gadiffaith secure their first league win with a 12-2 win over Pontyfelin, the result moving the off the bottom of the table.
GBL Division 1
Leaders Monmouth record a narrow 4 shot (8-4) win over Croesyceiliog as Newbridge move 4th following a maximum 12 points win over Caldicot. Crosskeys move off the bottom with their first win, a 10-2 win over Pontymister Athletic.
GBL Division 2
RTB Ebbw Vale retu to winning ways with a 10-2 win at Pontymister Welfare. Blackwood remain 2nd following their 10-2 win over Whiteheads. Aberca move upto 3rd in table after securing maximum points at Blaina whilst Beechwood also climb following their 12 points at Abergavenny.
